You can’t leave Spain without a trip to Toledo, and this expertly planned day trip from Madrid makes it easy. Hop aboard a clean and comfortable private minibus to make your way out of the capital and into the enchanting nearby region of La Mancha. In one unforgettable day, you’ll unravel Toledo’s fascinating history, influenced throughout the centuries by each of the three major world religions, and see this heritage firsthand inside a beautiful synagogue and the city's iconic cathedral. And because the best outings in Spain include wine, you’ll also taste some of the best in the region at a family-run vineyard just outside the city.
Your Toledo day trip starts bright and early in central Madrid. Say hola to your guide and small group and board your private transport for the comfortable 90-minute drive. Upon arriving in Toledo, you’ll be struck breathless immediately at our first stop: a panoramic viewpoint offering views of the city that look straight off a postcard. Be sure to have your phone or camera ready!
We’ll make our way down into the city proper and set off to explore Toledo’s historic center and Jewish Quarter. Thanks to a strategically planned itinerary, the city isn't too crowded at this time of the morning, making for a much more enjoyable stroll. Marvel at architecture that predates even the Medieval period and discover the fascinating reason why Toledo earned the nickname “City of Three Cultures.”
Along the way, we'll pop into a few of Toledo's most breathtaking sacred sites, such as a stunning synagogue and the Primada Cathedral—one of the most exquisite cathedrals in all of Spain. Most other organized Toledo day trips from Madrid omit entrance to the cathedral, but you'll get a guided tour full of fascinating insight that will help you appreciate every gorgeous detail.
After a morning of exploring, you’re sure to work up an appetite, so by now it’s time for a snack. We’ll swing by a family-run gourmet shop for a guided tasting of three different Manchego cheeses, Spain’s iconic cured ham, and a glass of wine.
Following our guided exploration of Toledo, you’ll have a bit of free time to shop for souvenirs or grab a quick bite on your own. Your guide will provide you with a handy custom-made map that's full of recommendations for lunch and shopping.
From there, we'll make our way back to the minibus for the second half of our day trip from Madrid. After a pleasant 45-minute drive through the Spanish countryside, we’ll disembark once more at a family-run winery and head straight for the organic vineyard. Sip three of their excellent biodynamic wines in an expert-led tasting as you ponder the mountains in the distance.
Last but not least, we’ll wrap up at the winery’s production facility, where you’ll get a firsthand look at how the grapes make their way to the bottles. We’ll board the bus one last time for the return trip to Madrid and have you back in the city in plenty of time for an evening tapas crawl.
