On behalf of Hornblower New York, we wish you all a happy St. Patrick’s Day! Here are some events going on in New York City today and this week in honor of our favorite Irish holiday…

St. Patrick’s Day Happenings in NYC:

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
No St. Patrick’s Day in NYC would be complete without staking out a spot at this parade, which makes its 253rd march up Fifth Avenue. (The event is even older than the United States; it was started by a group of homesick Irish conscripts from the British army in 1762.) More than 2 million onlookers are expected to show up for the annual spectacle, whose 2014 grand marshal is Jack Ahern of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 30. Fifth Ave from 44th St to 79th St. Subway: B, D, F, M to 42nd St–Bryant Park; 7 to Fifth Ave; 42nd St S, 4, 5, 6, 7 to 42nd St–Grand Central.

St. Patrick’s Day at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum
Kids can celebrate the Emerald Isle by crafting shamrocks, listening to the story of St. Patrick and meeting a live snake—all for free! Ages 2 ½ and up.

Too La Roo La: Improvished Irish Blarney
Ever wondered what Old St. Patty’s Day was like? Join Irish Improv actors and comedians Lorraine Cink and Julie Sharbutt as they share ancient yarns, warbles of yore, blarney and old ballads of Galway, with brews in the pub! Students, get to the door early for $1 tickets. Other Paddy Wagons can purchase $5 tickets in advance.

Annual St. Patrick’s Day Open Day
The Irish Arts Center invites families to an Irish extravaganza, filled with authentic music, dances, workshops and atmosphere. Learn to play the tin-whistle, get your face painted, experiment with tap-dancing, or simply sit back and watch the artists perform at this celebration of Irish culture. Ages 3 and up.

St. Patrick’s Day Bash at Leave Rochelle Out of It and 205 Club
Still don’t have a plan for St. Patrick’s Day? You’re in luck! Join Time Out New York at Leave Rochelle Out of It  and 205 Club on March 17 from 5 to 8pm for a night of ridiculous fun (and possibly some regrettable decisions).

Leprechaun
Before she made her television debut in Friends, Jennifer Aniston starred in a movie about leprechauns—murderous ones. St. Patrick’s Day evening, the Mark Jones–directed film Leprechaun will play at Nitehawk Cinema as part of its Lil’ Terrors series. Will Jen and her friends have the luck of the Irish and make it out alive? Get some draft beer ($6–$7) and tater tots ($7) and find out.
