It’s the time of the year again when cooler weather swarms in and families gather to give thanks around the table. The Canadian Thanksgiving is almost here which means it’s the P.E.R.F.E.C.T time to visit Niagara Falls, Canada and the beautiful Niagara Region and for many great reasons.
If Niagara Falls is on your list of stops to make this weekend be sure to give yourself an extra a day or even two for all the great outdoor festivals, activities and events happening around the city. Here’s some of our favourite seasonal things to see and do even if you’re visiting for a few days (don’t worry we suggest something for everyone!)
FOR THE ARTS AND CRAFT TYPE
BALLS FALLS FESTIVAL & VINELAND THANKSGIVING ARTS & CRAFT FESTIVAL
Did you know that Niagara Falls isn’t the only waterfall in the Niagara Region? Balls Falls is located in Vineland, Ontario which is 25 minutes from Niagara Falls. The area is part of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority that offers a glimpse of outdoor beauty, hiking trails and a season outdoor festival. Each Thanksgiving weekend the area is booming with visitors from all over looking to enjoy nature and shopping at the same time! Explore over 100 vendors, enjoy sweet and savoury bites and step back in history by touring different historical buildings. Recently the Vineland Thanksgiving Arts & Craft Show started making its name when the event started growing in event attendees. Enjoy streets full of vendors who offer their unique antique, art and craft pieces.
FOR THE THRILL SEEKERS…
FOR GEORGE, DRUMMOND HILL CEMETARY WALK, HAUNT MANOR
October is also the month of chills and were not just talking about the temperatures. Prepared to be scared or at least have the hair on your arms raise as many historical buildings and attractions will offer ghost tours. Fort George is located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and was once a bloody battle ground between the Canadian and Americans. Nightly tours travel you through historical buildings while tales of ghosts are told. The Drummond Hill Cemetery gives a chill up the spine as your discover the past of soldiers who once fought on the land which is now a cemetery. If you’re looking for something that will have you screaming and running for the hills be sure to visit Haunt Manor. Haunted Hay rides and hair pulling tours will leave you frightened.
FOR THE OUTDOOR ADVENTURISTS…
JOURNEY BEHIND THE FALLS, HORNBLOWER NIAGARA CRUISES, WHITE WATER WALK AND WHIRLPOOL AERO CAR
If you’re one who enjoys daytime activities then be sure to visit Niagara Falls for all the great and oh-so colourful attractions. There really no better way to see the Niagara Gorge lit in vivid shades of colour than from the Whirlpool Aero Car. The cable car travels over the Niagara Whirlpool leaving you speechless as the colours from the forest below radiate in Fall colours. With the weekend temperatures estimated to be near 75 degrees the weekend will make for a great way to cool down and have some fun. Our daytime ‘Voyage to the Falls’ boat tour offers spectacular sites of the Niagara Gorge and city landmarks while taking you face-to-face with the mighty Niagara Falls. Our attraction brings you the closest the world wide wonder so it’s no wonder that people have been raving about it! Continue to feel refreshed and energized at Journey Behind the Falls. The attraction will leave you awestruck as you get side by side and behind the Falls.
FOR THE KIDS…
HAY RIDES, PUMPKIN PATCHES AND CLIFTON HILL
Go on and get Fall festive this Thanksgiving Day weekend. If you have young children bring them on a hayride or tour the falls festivities by picking pumpkins.
