Overview

Sure, the Old Town is a must—but it’s not the only show in town. If you’re looking for great food at bars you’re going to remember for years to come, allow us to introduce you to the Centro neighborhood. This less-visited area is the one we locals choose when making plans with friends. Tonight you’re one of us, and we’ll show you a true local experience full of both iconic pintxos and pleasantly unexpected tastes you won’t find anywhere else.

What's Included

  • Enjoy 10+ pintxos and 5 drinks across 5 small businesses in San Sebastian’s Centro neighborhood. Enough food for a full, delicious dinner.  View Dining Menu
  • Dig into the absolute best tortilla in the city at neighborhood residents' bar of choice for after-work drinks.
  • Escape the crowds in the Old Town for a more laid-back experience that feels like a night out with friends.
  • Get the insider knowledge you need to tackle San Sebastian’s most popular bars—like the very first pintxos bar ever, going strong for 90 years!—from a friendly local guide who can show you the ropes.
  • Taste the first-ever pintxo in the very bar where it was invented and try your hand at pouring the Basque Country’s famous cider the proper way: with the bottle held high above your head!
  • Sip incredible homemade vermouth as you learn why you shouldn’t write off canned food in San Sebastian—and try a delicious gourmet conserva for yourself.
  • Slow down the local way with great food and drink after a day of exploring.

TOUR ITINERARY

Your San Sebastian pintxos tour kicks off in one of the most beautiful and romantic areas of the city (it’s even known as “Little Paris”). There’s no better backdrop to set the scene for a night out in true donostiarra fashion.

Our first stop is a laid-back neighborhood bar that’ll already be filling up with local office workers stopping in for a casual drink to cap off the day. On the menu here: the best Spanish omelet in the city, alongside an inventive modern pintxo and a zurito (a small beer that makes the perfect accompaniment to bite-sized pintxos).

Next, we’ll move on to a tiny third-generation wine shop that’s the last of its kind in the area. The friendly owner will lead us to a private space in the back and pour us a shot of their homemade blackthorn liqueur. As you sip, your guide will give you a crash course in San Sebastian’s dramatic and fascinating recent history.

From there, it’s on to one of the city’s most iconic pintxo bars, where the first-ever pintxo, the beloved gilda, was invented back in the 1940s. You’ll taste it for yourself, along with a selection of more incredible pintxos, including their incredible pork chorizo. Wash it all down with crisp, dry Basque cider—which you’ll pour in the traditional way by yourself!

We’ll pass by San Sebastian’s gorgeous cathedral on the way to our next bar, which legend says was the very first pintxos bar in the city. Your guide will point out the carefully curated details that make it feel like an extension of San Sebastian itself and introduce you to the team of siblings behind the bar, who still proudly cook their grandmother’s beloved recipes. Settle in for a round of traditional pintxos, home-cooked with love, perfectly paired with a glass of refreshing Basque txakoli wine.

Last but not least, we’ll head to a bar that’s so beloved, it even inspired a popular club in Ibiza! They’re famous for their homemade vermouth, which we’ll enjoy with one last round of typical tastes: incredible sardines on toast, tomato salad made with fresh produce from a local farm, and an unexpected snack that’s a nod to San Sebastian’s seafaring traditions that we think you’ll find pleasantly surprising.

After an evening of rubbing shoulders with locals in the Centro neighborhood’s best bars, you’ll know exactly how (and where!) to do pintxos like you live here, setting you up for the rest of your time in the city.
