TOUR ITINERARY
Your journey begins in one of the most picturesque corners of the Jewish Quarter: an ancient temple that became a fresh fish market during the Middle Ages. There’s no better place to start our exploration of Roman food throughout the centuries!
The first bite on your Rome food tour is the ultimate symbol of Roman-Jewish cuisine: crispy artichokes fried to order from a no-frills takeaway spot. You’ll get yours to go and learn how this humble vegetable dish, born out of necessity by resourceful Jewish cooks confined to the Ghetto, grew into one of the most recognizable staples of Roman cuisine today.
Next, you’re off to a family-run bakery that’s been making homemade kosher treats for more than 200 years. This spot is so beloved by the local community that they often sell out of their goods by late morning. Luckily, we’ve reserved yours in advance. You’ll try a rustic sweet-and-savory bite with deep ties to Rome’s Jewish heritage.
From there, you’ll head out of the Jewish Quarter and into the historic center of Rome to continue our food tour. Your first stop in the Centro Storico is a tiny hole-in-the-wall that specializes in one thing and one thing only: fried codfish, which you'll wash down with a glass of wine.
Next, you'll taste two Italian street foods, including supplì, Rome’s answer to the Sicilian arancino. You'll try yours at a friendly shop run by a Neapolitan family, who proudly blend their Southern Italian culinary traditions with those of their adopted home in the Eternal City.
After, you'll take a brief walk to one of Rome's premier craft beer bars. Easily missed by the overwhelming amount of bars and restaurants catering to tourists, in this hidden gem you'll taste two beers from Roman breweries and get a crash course behind their unique flavors.
Still hungry? You'll cross the river into the charming Trastevere neighborhood for our final savory stop of the evening. You'll pick up typical Roman finger food from one of Trastevere's most popular restaurants, Checco er Carettiere.
Last but not least, just as the sun is beginning to set, follow your guide to a private rooftop for one last surprise: making your own Spritz! Access to a rooftop in Trastevere is hard to come by, but luckily your local foodie guide has you covered. Soak in the views of the Roman skyline and the dome of St. Peter's Basilica as you prepare your own Spritz and say "cin cin"!
