Summer is almost here! Barbeques, swimming pools, and sun rays are right around the corner. Summer also brings holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, and last but certainly not least, Father’s Day. Are you looking to do something special or go somewhere different to celebrate Dad this year? It’s hard to think of a city that offers more fun or a greater variety of activities than Los Angeles! This is exactly why this list of things to do in the city of angels on Father’s Day has something for everyone. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? L.A. for Father’s Day!
Father’s Day Round of Golf
Nothing really says “Dad” like a round of 18. If the man in your life happens to love golf, reserve a tee time at one of the best golf courses that Los Angeles has to offer, the Angeles National Golf Club. This desert-style, 72-par golf course, offers some breathtaking views and a full-service bar. Oh, and another thing, it was designed by Nicklaus Design Group, which is owned by golf legend Jack Nicklaus! Just in case it wasn’t said before, Dad’s get unlimited mulligans on Father’s Day.
Take Dad Out to the Ball Game
“Ice-cold beer here!” The smell of fresh-cut grass and hot dogs, and the sound of a crowd cheering a 400-foot home run, who doesn’t love a sunny day at the ballpark? If you’re looking to go to a baseball game on Father’s Day, you’re in luck! The Los Angeles Dodgers host San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium with the first pitch at 1:10pm. You can purchase tickets here. The Dodgers will also be giving away a limited-edition Father’s Day Bucket Hat, so be sure to get there early.
Take a Hike
One of the most popular things to do in Los Angeles is hiking. It’s great exercise and oftentimes allows you to get in touch with nature. But you can hike anytime, and since it’s Father’s Day, why not hike and see something cool at the same time? Plan a hike to get to the iconic Griffith Observatory! There are several hiking trails that start at Greek Theatre or Fern Dell that hikers can take to get there. According to their website, “Griffith Observatory is southern California’s gateway to the cosmos! Visitors may look through telescopes, explore exhibits, see live shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign.”
And if you’re looking for something a little more challenging than a hike, there’s always the Father’s Day Half Marathon that runs along the beach in Santa Monica. What better way to cap off a run than by jumping in the Pacific Ocean?
Rollercoaster of Love
I’m sure your Dad has spent some time playing Super Mario at some point in his life. So, if he likes theme parks, take him to Universal Studios Hollywood to check out the all-new Super Nintendo World! And if he happens to be a thrill-seeker, there are rollercoasters and other adrenaline-pumping attractions that are must-rides. If you guys would rather not have your stomach in knots, there is plenty to do and experience like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can see Hogwarts, get butter-beer, and get your own personal wands and see who is a better wizard and/or witch!
Papa was a Rolling Stone
While everyone has different tastes, it’s safe to say we all love music. And on Father’s Day, you can rock out with the Mamas and the Papas at the Grammy Museum! Take a dive into the history of the Grammy’s and relive some of the best Grammy moments. Take a walk on the red carpet and even learn how to win a Grammy! Special limited-time exhibits will include The Power of a Song: A Songwriters Hall of Fame Exhibit and Shakira, Shakira: The Grammy Museum Experience.
If Dad loves jazz or live music, take him to the Jazz Festival at the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, which has been in several movies such as, A Star is Born, and has hosted concerts such as The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Adele. The Jazz Festival takes place Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, and depending on the day will feature Leon Bridges, Digable Planets, Bell Biv Devoe, and Kamasi Washington, among others. Oh, and did we mention that it will be hosted by Arsenio Hall?!
All of these fun activities to do in L.A., but what about a nice Father’s Day meal? No matter what you decide to do with Dad, start a new tradition that is sure to create memories for the whole family to remember. This is why you should look no further than the Marina del Rey Father’s Day Premier Brunch Cruise or the Marina del Rey Father’s Day Premier Dinner Cruise. Either start your day or end your day on the water, having a chef-created meal with cocktails, beer, and wine. Enjoy the food and music from the comfortable air-conditioned interior, or step outside to enjoy the picturesque backdrop of the California coast, and toast to Dad!
