サンディエゴ港のリッチ・ゴーベン船長が、Old Pulteney Maritime Heroes Awardにノミネートされました。 友人であり同僚でもあるクリス・ギャラップ氏によって推薦されたリッチ船長は、この全米規模の賞が認めるセーリングと海運の精神を体現しています。

オールド・プルトニー・シングルモルト・スコッチウイスキーとUSセーリングは、今年の同賞の最終候補者3名のうちの1人として、リッチ船長を選出しました。 この賞は、教育、ボランティア活動、擁護活動、地域社会におけるセーリングの奨励などを通じて、セーリングの発展に大きく貢献した男女に贈られるものです。

As Chris explains in his nomination:
Captain Goben exemplifies the spirit of the Maritime world in his support of Mariners and the Marine industry, in and out of the workplace…. He was the first recipient of the Roger Murphy National Safety Award from the Passenger Vessel Association. And, he was the first known Mariner to be given the “Hospitality Employee of the Year” award by the San Diego Hotel/Motel Association. Captain Rich Goben believes in training and preparedness in all facets of his maritime sailing career.

トレーニングから安全対策まで、リッチ船長は愛する地域社会に恩返しをする人生を送っています。1975年、サンディエゴの海軍セーリング・クラブでボランティアとして活動を開始しました。それ以来、業界誌に安全に関する記事をいくつか執筆し、また、いくつかのセーリング船で乗組員の指導、訓練、助言を行った。1982年から1983年まで、デニス・コナーのアメリカズカップ・チームに「B」チームのナビゲーターとして参加。1984年から1998年まで、サンディエゴの海事博物館にある世界最古の現役帆船、スター・オブ・インディア号に乗船し、1998年に同船の船長に就任しました。

He regularly participates and leads training drills in San Diego harbor and is a founding member of the San Diego Area Maritime Security Committee.
