You can’t miss the purple upside-down cow! We can explain, should you feel you’re missing something.
The Underbelly Festival has a uniquely-shaped festival tent, designed to look like the belly and udder of a giant cow. It has returned for another year to its prime spot on the South Bank, in between Southbank Centre, Jubilee Gardens and the London Eye. Every day until 29th September 2019 visitors are in for a theatrical treat with the best in comedy, acrobatics, music, poetry and theatre all under one roof. Or should we say, under the udder?
The festival is chock-full of the best acts in entertainment. So, whether you are after some stand-up comedy, a top-notch circus act or a cheeky burlesque show you will find the festival has something for everyone. From classic stand-up to utterly ridiculous comedy, and from improvisation theatre to dazzling circus acts – really, everything is offered here. Our attention in particular was drawn to events with names like, Criminal: An Improvised Murder Mystery, Boudoir Circus, and Austentatious: An Improvised Jane Austen Novel. Does that not sound promising?
The line-up also includes acts for the whole family, we have been told. With Basil Brush’s Family Fun Show & the Comedy Club 4 Kids, little ones will have a good time!
All events at Underbelly Festival are ticketed, but there is nothing stopping you from taking a sip from your favourite beverage or having a bite to eat at one of the biggest free-to-enter outdoor bars in London. The street food stalls The Laughing Stock and Waffle On are right there to add to the whole festival atmosphere. It’s all on the Southbank, with the Thames and the London Eye in the background. Well, hello summer!
