Overview
Step back in time during the Alcatraz Island Day Tour and experience the legendary Island that has been a Civil War fort, a military prison and one of the most notorious Federal penitentiaries in US history. Visitors will be able to explore the windswept island and learn about its layered history through outdoor interpretive signs, a Discovery Guide island map, and exhibits.
Later, explore SFMoMA which houses more than 33,000 modern and contemporary and contemporary artworks and rotating exhibitions on view. Visit works of art on seven floors to see paintings, sculptures, photography, architecture, design, and media created by masters. Plus, with two restaurants and a cafe, it’s easy to take a break to regain some extra energy.

Alcatraz Day Tour
- Please note the roads and walkways on Alcatraz are steep. The distance from the dock to the Cellhouse is approximately 1/4 mile (.4km) and the elevation change is 130 feet (40 meters), the equivalent of walking up a 13-story building. The roads and walkways are wide with several places to stop along the way to rest and take in the breathtaking views. Comfortable athletic or walking shoes are strongly recommended. - There is no food service offered on the ferry and consumption of food is prohibited on the Island.

- Everyone needs a ticket for entry, even members and those 18 and under — who always get in free.
- SFMOMA is just steps from Union Square, Yerba Buena Gardens, downtown hotels, the Moscone Center, public transportation, and numerous parking garages.
- Limited bicycle parking is available on-site.
- Vouchers cannot be combined with other offers or discount programs.
- Vouchers can be redeemed at the Ticketing Desk on the 2nd floor.

Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing
Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing is the launch site to Alcatraz Island. All visitors must wear a proper face covering while in the boarding queue at Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing and while aboard Alcatraz City Cruises' ferries.
Alcatraz Landing includes the Ticketbooth and waiting and boarding areas, all of which are accessible. Accessible bathrooms are found at Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing and on all Alcatraz City Cruises vessels.
Please note: there are no wheelchairs available for loan either at Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing or on Alcatraz Island.

Each ferry ride, the departure to Alcatraz Island from San Francisco and the return ferry to Pier 33 Alcatraz Landing from the Island, takes about fifteen (15) minutes. You can stay on Alcatraz Island as long as you like, but please plan for three (3) hours to enjoy the Cellhouse Audio Tour, view the exhibit, and explore the Island.
