On September 22nd come aboard Cruise for a Cause, a Hornblower cruise like no other!
The San Francisco Housing Development Corporation and Hornblower Cruises & Events have come together to bring you a night of live blues music on the San Francisco Bay. With wine in hand, and blues in the background, let the dazzling waves and soft breezes set the mood as Hornblower’s San Francisco Belle sails past the city skyline, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.
The evening will feature legendary blues artists Kenny Neal, Tommy Castro and the Painkillers, and Tina Carroll with David Sobel from SFHDC on the keys. DJ K-Style will be on board to keep you dancing and Donald Lacy Jr. from KPOO will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
About the Artists:
Kenny Neal is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and is widely renowned as a modern swamp-blues master. His new release, Hooked On Your Love, follows the triumph of his multi-award winning 2008 comeback album, Let Life Flow. An outstanding success, the CD raked in the accolades: three prestigious Album Of The Year awards, two Song of The Year awards for the title track, and Kenny himself garnered two Artist of the Year honors.
Tommy Castro and The Painkillers have played hundreds of shows to thousands of music lovers, always leaving his audiences screaming for more. All of his albums are filled with original blues, soul and West Coast rock with each song showing a slightly different side of Castro’s multifaceted musical personality. Billboard says the band plays “irresistible contemporary blues-rock” with “street-level grit and soul.”
Tia Carroll is often compared to legendary female singers Tina Turner, Koko Taylor and Aretha Franklin. While her power and sassy style of storytelling may be similar, Tia has her own unique star power that’s evident in her new self-titled album. Tia has toured with legendary blues icons Jimmy McCracklin & Sugar Pie DeSanto to Canada, France and Italy where she left a great impression on the audiences there.
Cruise Details:
Boarding begins at Pier 3 on the Embarcadero promptly at 7:00pm. Then the yacht will set sail from 8:00pm to midnight. The cruise will feature two different deck levels of entertainment, scenic San Francisco Bay views, bars on each level and small bar bites available for purchase.
Why cruise?
The proceeds from this cruise will enable SFHDC to launch an Artist Housing Fund dedicated to transforming the lives of San Francisco’s artists in three ways:
Provide short-term financial assistance to artists experiencing housing hardship, and link them to a pro-bono legal services partner.
Host financial empowerment workshops and housing counseling sessions dedicated to the needs of working artists and musicians.
Initiate a capital campaign to plan and build permanently affordable artist housing.
In addition to accessing an unforgettable night of music and dancing, your boarding ticket will help return San Francisco to a place where artists can afford to live and practice their crafts.
