Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 7, 2024, when thousands of yellow rubber ducks will plunge into the Chicago River. As the city heats up for summer, Chi-town comes alive with an array of activities that locals and visitors embrace and enjoy. The Chicago Duck Derby is a must-do one-day-only experience that supports an amazing cause while having a great time. Each year, Chicagoans are drawn to the city’s downtown area to witness between 30,000 – 100,000 rubber duckies (dependent upon the number of ducks that have been “adopted” by race day) that are dropped into the river as they race to the finish line. This heartwarming and entertaining event raises funds for the Special Olympics. Individuals or teams can adopt (purchase) a single duck or more with the chance to win prizes, and spectators are free. Chicago Ducky Derby Festival begins from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm at 401 N Michigan Avenue on Race Day. Fun and games are provided by sponsors and community partners. There will be food trucks, souvenirs, photo ops, and entertainment. The Splashdown Watch Party at The Northman begins at 11:45 am. The duck drop takes place off Columbus Drive Bridge at 1:00 pm. May the best duck win! Gather your friends and family for a “quacking” good time.
